We consider that pupils are able to learn better when they are happy and are not afraid of committing mistakes (fostering self-confidence). For this reason, Nursery teachers receive children in a warm and comfortable environment so that children arrive to school happy and wanting to learn more. The experience of the more than 50 British Schools that already exist in Spain proves that Nursery pupils are able to answer well when they are daily spoken in English. They are able to acquire a second language and they start to participate in the songs and tales that the teachers teach them in a very quick way. This is idyllic stage to be introduced into our system.
Our students carry out activities that are designed to develop their physical, social, and learning skills. These activities help them to have an easy transition from Nursery to Reception.
Nursery (3 years old) and Reception (4 years old)
Our objective in Nursery and Reception lessons is to develop positive attitudes towards learning. These two years are highly important as they are the basis in which we start building their future. We are fond of widely informing about the objectives in all curricular areas. Parents receive a monthly report about what has been developed in the lessons according to the curriculum, apart from the daily notes that are written in the students’ diaries.
Language and Literacy cover up all language aspects putting special emphasis in the speaking and listening skills. Pre-reading and pre-writing skills are smoothly developed from this basis.
Maths learning is achieved by means of practical activities. Songs and games are used to developed their numeracy knowledge (concept of quantity): role-play situations are used as a support to other mathematical concepts.
Knowledge and understanding of the environment implies the learning about natural world and the one built by the humankind. They are encouraged to make questions and propose ideas helping them to understand the sense of their own world.
